Shifted Blogote to VPS Knownhost
For a long time I’ve been urging to own a big reliable hosting for blogote.com. Firstly I was using shared servers, then moved on to Mediatemple which was shifted with the help of Amit bhawani and the server was great as expected.
But slowly there were few instances such as high GPU usage and another website which I wanted to merge with blogote hosting and therefore the idea of VPS came into my mind.
Then the search for a better VPS began, thanks to Rajupp who convinced me that Knownhost was the best choice though I can’t say it right now as I just transferred the blog a hour ago.
After purchasing the plan of VS-2 (I used a coupon KH4LIFE) I got 50% discount for 1st month and 15% lifetime discount monthly. Without the coupon it would cost me 40$ a month. If you are shifting to VPS then do use the coupon, saved our money right
Anyway my smart plan was to buy 3 months vps hosting as they charged me 58$ only but those guys refunded the money later saying me not do such nonsense.. hehe
50% discount was applicable for first month only!
Once I got my VPS details, I tried to shift a test website and was amazed at the WHM panel which made no sense to me. Frankly I expected managed VPS to be easy with one click install type stuffs.. was completely wrong. Seems like it had more options than the unmanaged servers.
As expected there was a failure in the website transfer, after importing the sql on an empty Wordpress blog, the blog went blank. And once again the search for free-expert-help begun. Sandip of blogsdna came to the rescue and invested his time for fixing the issue using many stuffs like commands, putty and ssh that was colorful.
Sadly while doing this, the server at dreamhost went down (Move from dreamhost to Knownhost) and therefore whole process had to be interrupted. Later on one of my classmate who is great at trial and error method (VISHAL) did heavy chutiyapani (as he says) and shockingly it worked
Unbelievable! Also he owns blogitem and technro..
Later during the midnite I asked Davinder from tothepc about silly doubts that were stuck in my tainted mind as I am completely new to VPS – Got amazing info from him and then I kept emailing the knownhost support which was seriously good as I heard/read in forums. The response was always under 30 min and timely. Even Techpavan was there!
And today morning I deleted everything that was uploaded from the server, added the blog on VPS IP address and pointed the files (Me and another friend Karthik from Muzikplanet – Illegal blog
) prayed to GOD for smooth transfer.
And to confirm what I was doing, I asked the young Sizlopedia saad who helped me by explaining the required process for blogote that was very much helpful again.
I used a tool called bigdump to dump the mysql into phpmyadmin as the sql file was larger than expected. And in just 1 hour everything seemed fine until Harsh and Amit bhawani told me there was an 404 error in the blog but later it was fixed by replacing with the old .htaccess file (Yes, we have a happy ending here)
Now I think I don’t have to change the VPS for another 6-12 months. And it was such a great struggle to move but now it’s done and I am happy
WOW .. nice post . Well Nice Because My Name Is Der . LOL .. Hope Next Time You Transfer We will Have A Even Bigger post ..
Congrats and I hope they save my a$$ by providing great service as they have been giving me all these days. The problem you had was that you were not using the general cpanel. Transferring a site from cpanel to cpanel hardly takes an hour at max. trust me, that’s all it took me when I shifted to Knownhost from Lunarpages. And WHM is simple and useful (once your site is stabilized). You would also need to use Power panel (only for container restart) in case the server goes down due to super high traffic!
hehe finally my prayers worked man! Will turn an astrologer (no illegal from now on )
.
@vishal – Aur kitna padega
Next time we can play with dedicated server
@Raju – I hope things go awesome from now, I was convinced with knownhost support and shifting was indeed a tedious process. Atleast I learned a lot from this.
And I was wondering about the virtuzzo (don’t know the exact name) power panel as well. I never knew it was used for restarting
Still figuring out things (I’m afraid as well) and thanks for your time.
@karthik – Ha.. It’s rare to see so much of talent in people
Atrologer and blogger!!
This job is better done through VPS hosting account.
@Blog Hosts – Sorry I removed your blog link in comment field. Spammer :S ? Anyway thanks for the comment. And it was done through VPS itself.
Phweee, glad to hear its finally moved successfully. Extremely sorry that I couldn’t do it.
comment is off the target but i noticed that in the footer, copyright still says 2008
Wish you were with us.
See you there in 6months from now
KnownHost is good and have a cheap vps! I read many articles about that.
I am a SPAMMER!
